The bay of Mayalibit splits raja ampat’s biggest island of Waigeo almost into two. The inner part of the bay is almost like a big lake connected to open sea by river-like channel. It is home to the Maya, believed to be the origin of raja ampat people who inhabit six different villages across the bay. They are humble as less visited by outsiders yet very welcoming.
Apart from meeting charming smiles of Maya people, a visit to Mayalibit is to witness some of raja ampat’s most hidden beauties. The truly exotic Kalibiru with its crystal blue freshwater and the rock of Batu Kelamin are amongst the list.
From the inner part of the bay, sight of raja ampat’s highest peak Mount Nook can be viewed. This 948m mountain was frequently visited by Sir Russel Wallace during early time.
